Etching is a printmaking technique that dates back hundreds of years. A waxy ground is rolled onto a metal plate which is then drawn into with a needle. The drawing exposes the metal below the wax so that when the plate is dipped into acid the marks are etched, creating grooves for ink to sit which is then printed on paper using a press.
