About
James Joslin is a figurative artist and printmaker based between Hastings and London, England. Working across oil painting and etching, his practice is centred on the creation of intimate depictions exploring presence, vulnerability and the human figure. His work has been shown at the Kensington + Chelsea Art Week, Towner Gallery, The Phillips Collection (Cadaquésan Landscape), and the Singapore, Melbourne, Brunswick and Tasmanian International Festivals of Art (Hatta).
He originally studied composition at De Montfort University and has since frequently worked with performers such as Margaret Leng Tan, a leading exponent of John Cage. His collage piece, Paganini Cut-Up, was recorded by violinist Fenella Humphreys on her 2023 BBC Music Magazine awarding-winning album Caprices.
Alongside an ongoing studio practice, James undertakes a limited number of portrait commissions per year.
